On the Pier

It's hard to keep from
hating you for some
of the things
you've done
you seem so sure of yourself
and of me
Well, you're not the only fish
in the sea
I'm going
to catch me another one.

Let's Be Children Today

Let's be children just for today
I'll braid my hair and tie it up with pink ribbon
We'll go to the park and chase each other around a bench
We'll smile at the babies and talk to the old men
We'll pat the black spaniel when he peers at us from half-blind eyes
You'll make me a bouquet of dandelions and I will kiss your cheek.
We'll stay there while it rains and watch everyone else hurry away.
Then we'll wander home, careful to step in all the puddles we can find.
Let's be children today.
